Job Description

As an Environmental Specialist you will have responsibility for development and execution of the site environmental programs and systems. These areas include sustainability, air, wastewater, and solid waste activities. You will work closely with functional areas to reduce the environmental impact of the facility through continuous improvement.Additional Responsibilities IncludeMust follow Ahlstrom’s manufacturing and hygiene processes, procedures and policies, as applicable, to the position’s areas of responsibility, to meet and maintain the safety, quality, and regulatory compliance requirements for each grade of paper.Ensure all compliance requirements are met for the facilityAccountable for the accurate and timely preparation, review, and submission of all environmental regulatory reports and filings, including NPDES DMR, Stormwater DMR, SARA Title III (311/312), TRI, and all other applicable federal, state and local requirements.Work with regulators on any incidents or requestsStay up to date on existing and upcoming regulations that can affect the facilityProvide environmental support and review for projects throughout the facility.Auditing, risk assessing and delivering training to site personnelWork with corporate environmental and sustainability groups to help lead global initiativesDirect oversight of environmental operations like responsibility for day-to-day environmental system performanceAssessing, analyzing & collecting environmental performance dataLiaison between community, environmental agencies, and other interested partiesCapital and new chemical reviews and approvalsAll other assignments assigned by managementThis list is not exhaustive and may not include all duties, responsibilities, or essential functions of the position as defined under the ADASkills to be SuccessfulMinimum of 2 - 5 years of experience in environmental regulatory issues is preferredBachelor’s degree in environmental science required; Chemical or Environmental Engineering preferredSome experience working with regulatory agenciesIndustrial experience preferred, but not necessaryExperience with air and wastewater permitting is preferredEffective verbal and written communication skills are essentialMust be able to effectively interact with a wide range of people including production and salaried employees, and regulatory personnelStrong analytical skills, attention to detail, and methodical approach to workExperience with carbon reduction, water reduction, and zero-waste to landfill strategies desiredThe ability to work in a normal office environment to include sitting or standing for long periods of time, operating various standard office equipment, carrying paper documents/files, reaching and bending, speaking on the telephone.
